Let’s break down the cost of learning to drive. Firstly there’s the cost of your provisional license, the cost of taking your theory test and the cost of learning resources (like a package containing a highway code, DVD and revision book).
According to Compare The Market, the national average cost of an hour long driving lesson is £29.20 and the average learner requires 45 of these lessons to get pass-ready. This puts the cost of tuition at £1,314. Then, of course, there’s the cost of your practical test itself which will cost more for evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
Altogether, learner drivers can expect to pay a little short of £1,500 on average assuming that you apply for your provisional license online and take your test on a weekday.
