Local overview

Learn to make confident decisions around Cheam

Driving around Cheam means noticing how the rules change between adjoining roads. Ewell Road and Cheam Road form part of the A232 red route, where signs and markings determine where stopping is permitted. At the Park Lane junction with Ewell Road, a motor-vehicle restriction limits who can enter.

Learning to spot these restrictions early gives you time to decide whether a turn or stopping place is permitted.

Lesson choices

Choose how you want to learn

Whether you are starting from scratch or have lessons behind you, discuss the gearbox and pace of learning you prefer.

Learning manual

Manual lessons

Practise coordinating the clutch and gears with your observations. The aim is to make each control feel manageable while you learn to respond to the road ahead.

Learning automatic

Automatic lessons

An automatic removes manual gear changes from the task. You still learn to judge gaps, control your speed and position the car carefully through turns.

Intensive courses

Intensive courses

If you want lessons closer together, ask about an intensive course. Discuss your existing experience and the time you can set aside for learning before choosing the course.

On-road confidence

What to watch for on Cheam roads

Look beyond the vehicle immediately ahead. Signs, side roads and people near the pavement can all change what you need to do next.

Check stopping restrictions on the A232

Ewell Road and Cheam Road form part of the A232 red route. Before pulling over, read the signs and markings to establish where stopping is permitted. An empty stretch of kerb is not enough on its own.

Read the entry signs at Park Lane

At the Park Lane / Ewell Road junction, a motor-vehicle restriction applies with limited exemptions. Identify it before committing to the turn. If the road is restricted to you, continue by a permitted route rather than making a hurried change of direction.

Plan around the Kingston Avenue School Street

The Cheam Park Farm Primary Academy School Street covers Kingston Avenue between Windsor Avenue and Kew Crescent. During its signed term-time hours, general traffic cannot enter. Check the entry signs early and watch for children walking near the road.

I took lessons with Arsh from Wimbledon Driving School after a disappointing experience with another provider. From the start, Arsh was patient, reassuring, and highly knowledgeable, which completely transformed my confidence behind the wheel. Thanks to his guidance and support, I’ve now passed my driving test. I’m very grateful for everything he’s done and would highly recommend him to anyone learning to drive.

Just passed 1st try! Cameron Phoenix (my grade A instructor) was amazing. He was very patient with me every lesson, his car was great to drive. I’ve already recommended Cameron to one of my friends and my younger brother and would urge anyone looking to pass their test to use Cameron as their instructor. Thank you Cameron, I wouldn’t have able to pass without you
