The A30/Bakeham Lane crossroads appears in the university directions to its Sports Centre. Work out which turn you need before arriving, then use the signs, signals and markings in front of you to guide the approach. A written direction tells you where to go, but it cannot tell you when it is safe to move. Continue observing the junction even after you have recognised your turning.
The Sports Centre approach leads from Bakeham Lane into Prune Hill. Look for the next turning while continuing to check the traffic around you. After each turn, bring your attention back to the new stretch of road and settle your position. If an entrance is difficult to identify, maintain control while you work out the direction instead of steering sharply towards it at the last moment.
Royal Holloway Sports Centre is off Prune Hill and can be reached on foot, by bicycle or by car. That mix gives you a reason to look beyond the nearest vehicle when approaching the entrance. Check whether someone is crossing the access and leave space for a driver turning out. Slow enough to see clearly when another vehicle or a boundary hides part of the entrance.
Egham Library has a High Street address, while the library and its car park are in Fairhaven at the A30 end of the street. Work out the destination before setting off so that searching for it does not take over your driving. Around the car park, watch for a vehicle reversing or a person stepping between parked cars. Read the conditions for the parking area you actually enter.
Egham station is on Station Road. As you drive near the station, check the pavement and the spaces between vehicles as well as your intended path. A person looking towards an approaching car may move towards the kerb, while another driver may be watching for a passenger. Keep your speed low enough for the view available and avoid letting the station entrance hold all your attention.
The car park for Runnymede Pleasure Grounds is on Windsor Road. A driver looking for that entrance may reduce speed before turning, so watch their position and leave time to react. When you use any car park, check its displayed conditions before choosing a space. The presence of a large open area does not make it a place to practise without checking that use is permitted.
Test-centre context
Chertsey and Ashford are nearby centres offering car tests. Before choosing an appointment, use the GOV.UK finder to check the options for your own postcode and discuss the travel plan with your instructor. It is sensible to know where you are going, but readiness depends on what you can do at the wheel without help.
Car tests at Chertsey use Unit 4, The Forum, Hanworth Lane, Chertsey, KT16 9JX. Plan the trip to Hanworth Lane separately from the driving you need to demonstrate during the test. Ask yourself which situations still need a reminder from your instructor, such as noticing a developing queue or deciding whether to wait. Those are useful points to discuss before settling on an appointment.
The Ashford car-test address is 18/19 Fir Tree Place, Church Road, Ashford, TW15 2PJ. If that is your booking location, allow time to understand the approach to Church Road and read the appointment instructions. Your preparation should also let you cope with a direction you were not expecting. Keep observing and controlling the car while working out where to go, rather than relying on recognising every street.
