Driving Lesson Routes In Hounslow

Which one of these routes would you recommend?

Learning to drive in Hounslow can be tricky at the best of times, let alone if you want to practice without your instructor.

To help, we’ve put together some suggested routes for you to keep practising on. Some of the routes fit together nicely, so if you’re up for it, why not try more than one in a session?

Keep practising your manoeuvres

Down near Hounslow Heath, you’ll find a network of little residential roads, which are great for practising your manoeuvres.

Frampton Road, Vickers Way and the surrounding streets are much quieter than some of the larger roads in the area, which can be intimidating for a learner driver.

There are often cars parked along Frampton Road, so you will have plenty of opportunities to practice parallel parking, for example.

There are also some nice quiet corners to practice your reverse around a corner – these can be hard to find elsewhere.

Because of the ways these roads are structured, you will find it is easy to weave in and out. If it is quiet when you’re there, you can also practice your emergency stop.

Car parks are also good for practising bay parking and other manoeuvres. The Aldi carpark and nearby Home Bargains car park are reasonably large and even better out of trading hours.

Stay in your lane

When driving up Wellington Road and turning left onto Staines Road, there are traffic lights at the junction, which makes good practice – perhaps not for early lessons, but great once you’ve got some confidence. The key thing here is lanes. Approaching the junction, you’ll need to check your mirrors and make sure you get into the correct lane when you need to.

This practice links well to the suggested manoeuvre practice above, because if you keep going on Staines Road, you can turn left onto Frampton Road.

Four ways up near the Cavalry Barracks

Four way intersections are a bit nerve-wracking for learner drivers, because drivers can come from three different directions.

This intersection is great because drivers need to take it slow. Head up Beavers Lane and cross over with Barrack Road on one side and the barracks themselves on the other.

Unless it is the evening, we wouldn’t recommend driving near the schools there whilst you’re learning, as this can make you nervous, so we recommend you go down Martindale Road to avoid Hounslow Heath Infant and Nursery School and the neighbouring Junior School.
